Mixed Doubles shuttlers who have mathematically qualified for Paris Olympics

The Olympics represent the pinnacle of achievement for athletes worldwide, with competing and winning a medal for one’s country being considered the highest honor. Paris Olympics offers another chance for numerous athletes to earn accolades for their nations. Paris is set to host the Summer Olympics, marking the third occasion the city will welcome the quadrennial event.
A total of 329 events across 32 sports are scheduled to take place. Badminton, which will feature five events, is notable for being dominated by Asian countries, except for a few world-class European players like Viktor Axelsen and Carolina Marin. It is anticipated that Paris will continue to see similar trends. Here are some of the mixed doubles teams that have secured their spots.
Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong – China
The Chinese pair of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong are currently the numero uno in Mixed Doubles and will be one of the forces to reckon with. They won Silver in the Tokyo Olympics and would like to improve their medal color when they leave Paris.
Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino – Japan
Another pair of medalists from Tokyo who would be eager to improve their performance in Paris would be Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino of Japan. The duo won the Bronze as they lost to the eventual champions in Tokyo. They are in good form and will be a threat to the Chinese Pairs.

Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dong Ping – China
Huang Dong Ping was the one who thwarted the aforementioned teams’ chances of winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics. The 28-year-old is eager to defend her title, and she has a new partner, Feng Yan Zhe. Although Feng is no stranger to winning gold medals, he will need to be at the top of his game to earn an Olympic medal.
Seo Seung-jae/Chae Yoo-jung – South Korea
The pair of Seo Seung Jae and Chae Yoo- jung suffered a first-round exit at the Tokyo Olympics, with Huang Dong Ping being the reason for dashing their hopes. However, the South Korean duo is riding high on confidence with the World Championships title under their belt, and nothing would be sweeter than a taste of Olympic gold.
Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai – Thailand
Thailand is pinning its hopes on Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai to make history by winning their first badminton medal. The former world No. 1 pair had an impressive run at the French Open, where they reached the semifinals. Surpassing that performance would guarantee them a medal.
Kim Won-ho/Jeong Na-eun – South Korea
Having secured a place in the top eight, the pair of Kim Won Ho and Jeong Na Eun have earned their spot in the mixed doubles event. They will be the second pair from South Korea, following Seo/Chae. These young athletes aim to leave an impression in their Olympic debut.
Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet – Hong Kong China
ang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet left Tokyo heartbroken after missing out on a medal by losing the bronze medal match. The pair are eager to shake off the disappointment and are looking to make a fresh start in Paris. The Hong Kong duo, having stood on the podium at the World Championships and Asian Games, aspire to achieve the same feat at the Olympics.

Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei – Malaysia
One of the pairs who are having a wonderful run in 2024 is the Malaysian twain of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei. Despite losing in the finals of the Swiss Open to their Malaysian counterparts Goh Soon Huat & Shevon Jemie Lai, the partnership of Chen/ Toh has become the first pair to book a ticket to Paris and they lead the Malaysian challenge.
Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje – Denmark
In a sport dominated by Asians, the Danish pair of Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje is the first European pair to write their name in the qualification list for Mixed Doubles. It will be their second Olympics and the team will look to bring their best in Paris.
Ye Hong-wei/Lee Chia-hsin – Taiwan
After missing the previous two Olympics, Taiwan will have a team leading the challenge in the Mixed Doubles event, thanks to Ye Hong Wei and Lee Chia Hsin. The World No. 12 pair might be the underdogs but if the draw goes to their advantage they can spring a surprise or two.
Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue – France
The Mixed Doubles event will carry a local flair, as the French pair Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue have secured a spot in the competition. With the support of the home crowd, the duo aims to leverage the home-court advantage and create history.
