Mayank Yadav has picked seven wickets so far in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) talented speedster Mayank Yadav is all set to receive his maiden contract from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to a latest report. In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mayank has impressed everyone with his fiery pace bowling. Currently, Mayank is one of those rare young Indian fast-bowlers who bowls consistently over 145 kmph.

The Lucknow speedster made his IPL debut in the ongoing tournament for LSG against the Punjab Kings, where he scalped three wickets. In his next match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he once again picked up three wickets and also won Player of the Match Award for his match-winning performance.

Since then, the cricketing pundits have started talking about the 21-year-old talented pacer. All the experts and former great cricketers want BCCI to groom him for the future as his pace and accurate line and length can be very productive for the Indian side.

However, now reports have emerged that he will receive fast bowling contract from the BCCI, a contract which BCCI introduced recently and included Akash Deep, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal and Vidwath Kaverappa. According to a report in PTI, Mayank will get included in the list.

“He will soon be handed a pace bowling contract and once he is in BCCI Pathways structure, his growth will be systematically monitored,” a BCCI source informed PTI.

Mayank Yadav likely to be out of remainder of IPL 2024

In his third match of the ongoing IPL 2024 against the Gujarat Titans, Mayank bowled just one over before complaining about pain in his abdomen. He then walked off and missed Lucknow’s five IPL 2024 games before returning to the playing XI against the five-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 30.

However, during that match, LSG skipper KL Rahul brought the 21-year-old pacer into the attack to bowl the 19th over the first innings. On the very first delivery, Mayank removed Mohammed Nabi and soon after that, he walked off the field along with the physio. He bowled 3.1 overs in the game.

Following the match, LSG head coach Justin Langer revealed that Mayank is still having soreness in the same area, which kept him out of action for over three weeks. Langer further said the young pacer will also undergo a scan.

However adding more to it, a close source to BCCI informed PTI that the youngster is having a grade 1 tear and he may miss the remaining part of the IPL 2024.

“Mayank has a tear but it is more likely a grade 1 tear. It will be cutting it fine but in case LSG qualifies for the play-offs, he might just be able to play the knock-out games. But it is like hoping against hope and right now he is doubtful for the remaining IPL games,” a BCCI source informed PTI on condition of anonymity.
