ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Sanju Samson posts an emotional message in Malayalam after getting named in India squad

Sanju Samson will play his maiden ICC T20 World Cup in 2024 for India.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the provisional 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on April 30. However, the Indian cricketing board took some bold steps as they left out KL Rahul and included star wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson.

In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Samson has been in phenomenal touch with the bat till now and has played a crucial role in the Royals’ success with his leadership role as well.

In nine matches till now, the right-handed batter has smashed 385 runs and has four half-centuries to his name. His average is 77, with an impressive strike rate of 161.09. Samson-led RR are currently placed at the top of the IPL 2024 standings. They have 16 points and are almost through to the playoffs.

Apart from doing well for RR in the IPL over the years, Samson couldn’t replicate his form for India in the shortest format. In 25 T20Is, he has scored 374 runs with an average of 18.7 and a strike rate of 133. 

Earlier this year, in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home, the 29-year-old played the last match and was dismissed for a duck. Despite not performing well on the international stage, Samson got his call-up ahead of Rahul, who played the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. However, consistent show with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2024 earned Samson a place in the 15-man squad for the marquee tournament.

Samson posts an emotional message in Malayalam after being named in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad

After getting included in India squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson took it to his social media handle on Instagram to react. He posted an emotional message written in Malayalam. The Kerala cricketer wrote, “വിയർപ്പു തുന്നിയിട്ട കുപ്പായം 🇮🇳💙,” (Viyarpu Thuniyitta Kuppayam,” which means ‘Shirt stitched of sweat and hardwork.”

Indeed Samson has worked hard to receive his maiden call-up to play in an ICC event for the Indian cricket team.
