The two southern teams have met earlier in an ISL final.
Manolo Marquez’s FC Goa have had a scintillating 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) campaign. Coming from two disappointing campaigns, FC Goa made a big move when they appointed Marquez last summer and built a team around the Spaniard’s ideology and style of play.
This move certainly paid off for the Gaurs, as they have been on the mark for the entity of the season, and finished third on the points table. Across the phase of the season, Goa also unearthed some gems such as Jay Gupta, Boris Singh, and many more, securing the fact that their future lies in safe hands.
Currently, on a seven-game unbeaten streak, Goa means business this ISL season, and they can likely be one of the two teams featuring in the finals. Also, with a great mixture of young blood as well as seasoned professionals, Goa have it in them to perform at such a high-stakes game.
However, in their path stands Owen Coyle and his gang of relentless and hardworking players. Having been placed 10th in the points table not too long ago, Chennaiyin put up a complete turnaround and saved themselves from the brink of elimination.
Their journey from the agony of misfortune to the delight and ecstasy of playoff qualification required Owen Coyle and his men to turn up on several crucial occasions. Chennaiyin won four of their last six games, defeating the likes of Mohun Bagan, Odisha FC, NorthEast United and Jamshedpur, to script a miraculous comeback.
Despite both teams being in incredible form at the moment, the odds will certainly be in favor of Manolo’s men, as they defeated Chennaiyin by four goals, in what was the final league game for both these sides this season.
