The Mariners can complete a domestic treble with a win in the ISL final

Ahead of the start of the 2023-24 ISL season, Mohun Bagan Super Giant were rather the biggest prospect for the upcoming season. Having made a number of staggering moves in the market, Mohun Bagan were flying high and had the strongest team in the league on paper.

The Mariners started their season just as they were expected to, and remained undefeated after the first seven league games. Fortunes then took a steep turn for the Red and Maroons, as they lost three games back to back thereafter before the international break put the league to a halt.

It was during this break, that the club made one of its most important and impactful decisions, which would go on to transform this Mohun Bagan team, into the powerhouse that they are at the moment. On the 3rd of January, Mohun Bagan mutually terminated Juan Ferrando’s contract and placed Antonio Lopez Habas back into the driving seat, to take this caravan of talented troops, all the way to glory.

Out of the 12 league games Habas managed thereon, Mohun Bagan lost only once, winning nine of those 12 games. The Mariners also finished top of the table and won their maiden ISL Shield with Habas acting as the guiding light for them throughout.
