Rohit Sharma will lead Indian Cricket Team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
It’s been two days since the Ajit Agarkar-led Indian selection committee announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The upcoming ICC event is all set to take place in the USA and Caribbean Islands in June. Rohit Sharma will be leading the team in the upcoming event. But since the squad announcement was made, Rinku Singh‘s omission has become a hot topic of discussion.
There were some big decisions made in the announced squad. Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Rinku were left out, while Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Shivam Dube got the benefits of good performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. However, many former cricketers, cricket pundits, and even fans criticised the selectors for leaving out Rinku Singh from the squad. Notably, Rinku has been included in the list of reserves.

That was the same question that a journalist asked during the press conference in Mumbai. Notably, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressed the media in a press conference held on Thursday. When asked about the omission of Rinku Singh, Agarkar admitted that it was a very hard decision for them as well, and they had a long discussion after it.
Meanehile, Mumbai Indians (MI) will be facing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Hence, after the press conference got over at the BCCI HQ, Rohit went directly to the Wankhede Stadium, where players from both teams were practicing. He met with a few players and was seen having a word with Rinku as well. The video was uploaded on MI’s official Instagram handle.

Rinku has been part of the Indian T20I team for the nine months, and he has done a great job with the limited chances he has got. He has played 15 games and scored 356 runs at an average of 89 and a strike rate of 176.24, with two half-centuries. He is part of the travelling reserves for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and if someone gets injured, he can make it into the main squad.
