4 Indian cricketers who will play their first ever ICC T20 World Cup in 2024
Four Indian cricketers will make their first appearance at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
The much-awaited announcement, for which everyone was waiting, has finally been made. The Indian selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The squad saw a mix of youth and experienced players. Meanwhile, the players who have done well in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, have also been rewarded.
Rohit Sharma will be leading the squad, with Hardik Pandya as vice-captain. Veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is also back in the squad after missing out on international action for a long time. Surprisingly, Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh are not part of the actual squad but are in the travelling reserves. However, there are four players who will play in their first ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.
Here are 4 Indian cricketers who will play their first ever ICC T20 World Cup in 2024
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal
There was no doubt that Yashasvi Jaiswal would be the first-choice opener along with the captain Rohit Sharma. The left-hander has been picked for the main squad now. With Gill in reserves, Jaiswal will be opening the innings for Team India. It will be his first ever appearance for India in an ICC tournament. He is in good form in the IPL 2024 and will be a key player for India.
2. Shivam Dube
Selectors had to opt between the duo of Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube and Dube made the cut to main squad with his bowling abilities. Although it’s a harsh decision towards Rinku, Dube has been no less in T20 cricket in the recent past. Dube won Player of the Series award in India’s last T20I series against Afghanistan and has been hitting sixes for fun in the IPL for CSK.
In the ongoing IPL 2024, the left-hander has scored 350 runs at an average and strike rate of 58.33 and 172.41, respectively. The only question is his bowling, because he hasn’t bowled this season. Nevertheless, it is his maiden ICC T20 World Cup for India.
3. Sanju Samson
The Indian selectors have backed the performances in the IPL 2024 and picked Sanju Samson as the wicket-keeper in the side along with Rishabh Pant. Samson has been in incredible form with the bat. He has already scored 385 runs at an average of 77 and a strike rate of 161.08, with four half-centuries. His ability to play spin makes him an important player, and it will be his first ICC T20 World Cup for India.
4. Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav has been the first-choice spinner for India for the last couple of years. Be it any format, he has done well for India and has taken his international form into the IPL 2024 as well. The wrist spinner played all games of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India and will now be playing his maiden ICC T20 World Cup in June.
