Kane Williamson becomes 3rd New Zealand batter to reach 1000 runs in ICC Cricket World Cup

Kane Williamson is back leading New Zealand against Pakistan in Bengaluru.
New Zealand’s captain, Kane Williamson, achieved a remarkable milestone, becoming only the third New Zealand batter to reach 1,000 runs in World Cup matches. This accomplishment took place during New Zealand’s group-stage game against Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Bengaluru.
This achievement elevates Kane Williamson to the ranks of cricketing legends. He follows in the footsteps of Stephen Fleming, who scored 1,075 runs, and Ross Taylor, who crossed the 1,000-run mark with 1,002 runs in previous World Cup tournaments. It’s a testament to the incredible consistency and determination of these iconic New Zealand cricketers. Williamson’s inclusion in this prestigious club underscores his status as one of the finest batters in the modern game.
This milestone moment occurred in Williamson’s 24th innings in a World Cup game, where he has displayed excellence, boasting an astounding batting average of over 60. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Bengaluru marks Kane Williamson’s fourth appearance in this prestigious tournament. His journey through the World Cup stages began in 2011 and continued through the editions in 2015, 2019, and now, 2023.
ODI World Cup: Innings taken to Reach 1,000 Runs
David Warner and Rohit Sharma accomplished it in just 19 innings, while Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers achieved this milestone in 20 innings. Viv Richards and Sourav Ganguly followed closely with 21 innings, and Mark Waugh and Herschelle Gibbs reached it in 22 innings. Tilakaratne Dilshan took 23 innings to achieve this feat, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson is currently at 24 innings, still on his journey to the 1,000-runs mark in ODI World Cup matches.
In the match, Pakistan won the toss and chose to field. New Zealand lost their first wicket, with Hasan Ali taking the crucial breakthrough in the 11th over, dismissing Devon Conway for 35 runs. Conway was in the process of building a strong opening partnership with Rachin Ravindra, but Hasan Ali’s delivery resulted in an under-edge that was caught by Mohammad Rizwan. Currently, Rachin Ravindra is at the crease, batting alongside captain Kane Williamson, as they aim to establish a solid partnership for the team.
