Top five player battles to watch out for in CHE vs PBKS match No. 49 in IPL 2024
CHE vs PBKS clash in the IPL 2024 will take place on Wednesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
After losing two consecutive matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally came back to winning ways after a big win against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 76 runs in their last outing. With that, CSK jumped to the third spot and are not far behind a place in the playoffs.
They will now face Punjab Kings (PBKS), who are coming off an incredible chase against Kolkata Knight Riders. They will not be an easy opponents to beat. It is expected to be a brilliant game between the two teams, and some big names will be up against each other.
CSK vs PBKS: Head-to-Head
In the IPL, these two teams have played a total of 28 games. CSK are slightly ahead with 15 wins while PBKS have won 13 games in total.
CSK vs PBKS: Top five player battles to watch out for
1. Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Arshdeep Singh
The CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has done the bulk of the scoring in the last two matches and will be a massive wicket for PBKS. The form he is in, if he gets set, he will play another big innings. However, he hasn’t had good numbers against Arshdeep Singh in the IPL. Arshdeep has bowled 34 balls to him, given away 37 runs at a strike rate of 108.8, and dismissed him twice.
2. Shivam Dube vs Kagiso Rabada
Shivam Dube has been the game-changer for CSK in the middle overs. The tall left-hander has struck the ball brilliantly and scored runs at a rapid pace, which is why CSK have posted big totals. He will be keen to do it again in the CSK vs PBKS clash. But he will be up against Kagiso Rabada, who has bowled well against him. Rabada has dismissed Dube twice in 27 balls and conceded only 33 runs.
3. Jonny Bairstow vs Ravindra Jadeja
Jonny Bairstow slammed a brilliant century in the last game for PBKS against KKR, which helped PBKS chase down the record total and win the game. He will be confident heading into the coming CSK vs PBKS clash. Bairstow is a free-flowing batter and can take the game away. However, Ravindra Jadeja has enjoyed bowling against him. The CSK superstar has dismissed Bairstow 8 times in international cricket. In the IPL, he has bowled 22 balls to him and conceded 20 runs with one wicket.
4. Shashank Singh vs Matheesha Pathirana
It has been an incredible season for Shashank Singh. He has scored the most runs for his team, struck 18 sixes, and scored 263 runs at a strike rate of 182.63. The 32-year-old has shown maturity and collected as many runs as possible at the back end of the innings. However, CSK have someone who hasn’t let the batters score in the final overs. He is the Sri Lankan star, Matheesha Pathirana. So it will be a great battle between the two in-form players.
5. Daryl Mitchell vs Sam Curran
Daryl Mitchell played a good innings in CSK’s last match, registered his first fifty, and looked good. He will be keen to carry on that form and contribute to the coming game as well. He plays well against spin and pace, which makes him a big wicket. In the upcoming game, he will face PBKS stand-in skipper Sam Curran, who has dismissed him twice in international cricket. This will be another battle to watch out for in the game.
