Luis Diaz has been linked with a move to Barcelona
Although Luis Diaz’s father’s remarks that “we haven’t lost our hope” regarding moving to Spain made headlines, they are not as dramatic as they are made out to be.
If you Google Diaz’s name, you might find that his father was aggressively promoting the No. 7 player for a move to Spain—possibly to Real Madrid—as quickly as possible.
Among those who shared the allegations on Twitter was journalist Fabrizio Romano, who cited Diaz Sr. as saying: “We haven’t lost our optimism yet…Luis is performing admirably, and Spanish teams are constantly involved in the market. Those quotations, which have received three million views, were obviously taken out of context.

Although he did not aggressively pursue a transfer, the all-around Colombian did talk about Diaz’s prospects of playing for a Spanish team, namely Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid. Before signing with Liverpool, Diaz Sr. was questioned if a switch to Madrid was likely in a conversation with Spanish radio station Cadena SER.

It happened during a friendly match between Colombia and Romania on Tuesday night at Atletico’s Wanda Metropolitano. Colombia won 3-2, with Diaz playing 67 minutes of the match.
“You can feel the support and affection of the people for Luis here,” Diaz Sr. said.
“I go out here for a walk and they ask me for a lot of photos. There are many expectations. Luis lets himself be loved and the fans, seeing that great Colombian players have passed through here, love him.
“I was not aware that there was anything positive with Madrid clubs. I heard things, but I never knew if there was anything else,” he explained. With Liverpool, everything was more precise. The directive was more precise for Luis to get there.
“He hoped that he could come here. [Radamel] Falcao had already been there, James [Rodriguez] too… In the end it didn’t happen, but hope has not yet been lost. He is playing [well] and the clubs are active.”
